Re: What have we learn' ed
Sun, November 9, 2003 - 9:44 AMWell duh, us!
How many of us have survived the seemingly limitless supply of dust, storms, rain, hail, lightening and still come together to produce a fabulous meal and mojitos for all?!
US! Wasn't mixology part of the curriculum requirements? I thought it was.........

Re: What have we learn' ed
Sun, November 9, 2003 - 8:19 PMSome of the hippies go well with a little A1 maranade. Then again some others tend to be a little stringy and leave you feeling altered. The trick is knowing which ones to hunt. -

Re: What have we learn' ed
Sun, November 9, 2003 - 10:24 PMOk, here's a hint, DON'T go for the ones who reek of patchoulli or what ever the fuck that shit is, go for the ones that have the hemp clothing, they're most likely vegan and less toxic.

Re: What have we learn' ed
Sat, November 15, 2003 - 6:47 AMWhat I've learned:
Poorly made tents are no match for the playa.
Layers, layers, layers. Its all about the layers.
Gatorade powder is nice to have when drinking warm water.
Getting up at 5am sucks.
Murphey's Law reigns supreme.
There is no better place in the world than around a fire with friends.

Re: What have we learn' ed
Wed, November 19, 2003 - 11:58 AMOn Playa driving:
WHEN it's TAN take the VAN.
IF it's BROWN, you'll DROWN.
ON PLAYA ENTRANCES
info, courtesy of the locals
Now listen up
there's three entrances.
Entrance one and two;
and inbetween em
is the burning man road.
Trego Mountain is called the Elephant,
because it looks like one.
Drive toward his ear to get to frog pond.
Drive past his tail for Trego ditch.
DON'T steer too close to shore
looking for roads in the
white crusty salty part of the playa
that is like driving into a mudslick
asking to get stuck.
don't say no until you've heard the whole thing
don't say yes until you've heard the whole thing. -

Re: What have we learn' ed
Sun, December 14, 2003 - 9:01 PMFive years and I *still* haven't made it to Trego. I gotta fix that one of these days. Drive past the tail, eh? -

Re: What have we learn' ed
Thu, April 8, 2004 - 12:17 PMSarongs are the ultimate multi purpose desert garment. Put them on your head, wet them and drape them over your shoulders, use as a skirt, and during dust a storm, use as a mini-tent over your head so you don't breathe and wear as much dust. Also useful as a flag, an adult diaper,or a restraint. -

Re: What have we learn' ed
Thu, April 8, 2004 - 5:28 PMDon't get involved in communal kitchens.
Bring baby wipes, nobody likes devils ass.
What did we do before ziplocks?
Mutate your bicycle - so much easier to find.
Take some bottles of Ensure to keep you going.
Camelbacks rule.
If you feel thirsty you're already dehydrated.
Goggles are a must. I could say that about hats too.
Huge faux fur shaggy coat is a must for cold playa nights.
Leather pants too.
Take some time to explore alone.
If you're sick of cooking get on your bike and ride around, someone will feed you!
I know it's soooooooo cool to be on playa time - but there's a lot you miss if you don't check out the schedule of events.
If you're in a relationship read the playa guide to relationships - it helps. Give each other space, Make dates etc
Center camp is fun.
Getting ice is fun.
Oh yeah and about the sunscreen. Slip Slop Slap. -

Re: What have we learn' ed
Thu, April 8, 2004 - 5:34 PMI've found playa to be an effective sunscreen after about 3 days of normal sunscreen use. Last year my tan just "washed away" when I got home.

Re: What have we learn' ed
Thu, April 8, 2004 - 11:12 PMAfter working for Burningman for 10yrs. I found sun screen really SUCKS and if you were enough black and in layers, you acually stay cooler. I'm middle eastern and thats how the tribes men do it and it still works.
As for the sarong thingy, KILTS are the only way to go for men.
-
-
Re: What have we learn' ed
Mon, April 12, 2004 - 8:25 PMI agree with the assessment of kilts. There is nothing as masculine and just downright hot to me as a man in a kilt. I thought I died and went to kilt heaven last year. -

And it literally was probably more than one in a million!

Sun, April 10, 2005 - 2:46 PMThere are landmarks to guide you in every direction, but this not a reliable means of navigation. -
-
Re: What have we learn' ed
Sun, April 10, 2005 - 4:19 PMActually it is a very good way to navigate, if you pick good landmarks they never change. I've been out there for years and can get anywhere with using the Black Rock as point of reference.
